Changes and News |

A few of you may have noticed that we have made a few changes to the layout of the board, with these changes a few categories have been removed whilst other's have been added. We have moved Dr Ron Shimek, Reefs and Invertebrates section a little further up the board, as we feel that Ron does a service to the Reef Keeping Community and as such his section reflects this, if you've not had time to pop in to have a read or ask as question, you are missing out on some serious knowledge. Dr Ron's Section http://www.reefcove.co.uk/forums/index.php?showforum=67We've also added an ebay links section to the classifieds area of the board as I find there's some great stuff to be had on eBay. A warm welcome also goes to Oceans Motions, who have recently joined us. We would also like to give a little background on ReefCove itself, it was the brain child of myself and Mikey, we felt that it was hard to talk about Reef Keeping topics, shops, products etc without upsetting others (such as sponsors on other boards, or moderators). The forum was setup to be free from that, we wanted the freedom of speech (within reason obviously) and we didn’t want to be policing you to death and as such the board is free to use and also currently free for the Sponsors to advertise. We welcome all new users, and old, come on in and grab that keyboard an start posting away! A Big ReefCove Thank You to all for using the forum.

Changes to Reefcove |

Hi all, We're going to be changing the layout of the Cove over the next few days, so just to be aware things may look different on your next visit. A few forums don't get used as often as we would like, and the idea will be to merge those forums with others for example, to streamline the place a bit, and hopefully make the existence of the forum more meaningful. If anyone has any queries, just contact one of the team. Bye for now, M

Ron Shimek joins Reefcove |

Hello folks, It's my great pleasure to say that Ron Shimek has decided to become a part of the Reefcove community. I asked Ron for a few words to announce his joining the team and he wrote: QUOTE A couple of words "as to my decision to join the UK reefkeeping forum scene." ... Well, I have been on the reef forum "scene" for 14 years more-or-less. During that time I have always had a few folks from the UK that have been active on my various forums, but really not very many. Over the last three years, it has become apparent to me that there is a real difference in forums. This difference is expressed in the "attitude" of the forum to its participants (including the moderators), and it is expressed in the content of forum. The latter is very important. Poor content means dead reef animals, and reefs are dying. As examples, for all intents and purposes the Caribbean coral reef ecosystem is extinct, having been replaced by the Caribbean algal reef ecosystem; likewise all Indo-Pacific reefs are losing coral cover at the rate of about 2% per year. The hand-writing is on the wall... reefs are doomed. I think the only way many reef animals will survive is in the tanks of aquarists. Consequently, I think it is important that hobbyists learn how to properly maintain their animals, and as a scientist, I am aware that most hobbyist references are essentially useless. So... Last autumn I made the choice to try to get "the word" out to some sites outside of my usual haunts. To this end, I am now a moderator on the Greek forum, Aquazone.gr. After trying that for a few months, it made real sense that I should try to interact more with people I could communicate with without too much translation. I am aware I speak "American," and that that is a decidedly different language than "English." Nonetheless, the communication difficulties should be fewer than with most other languages. You (Mike) had asked me to join Reefcove some time ago, and I visited the forum as a lurker a few times to take a look at it. It seemed like it could be a good place to work, so I contacted you a few weeks ago to see if there was still some interest in having me on the team. And so... here I am. Cheers, Ron I'm sure everyone will give him a warm welcome
